Animal agriculture has long been a responsible
steward of the environment. The industry took
the lead in the development of technologies and
innovations that have focused on environmental
impact well before energy became more expensive
and environmental concerns hit the headlines.
As the American consumer places more demands
on all industries to demonstrate environmental
responsibility, the requirements for animal agriculture
are constantly changing. These pressures extend
all the way from the farm to the table with retail
and food service customers becoming more demanding
on the industry to clearly show how it is responding
to these pressures.
A coalition of stakeholders in animal agriculture
has put together a blue ribbon summit to be held
at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta,
GA on January 27-28, 2009. Leading experts from
within the industry and representatives from
the retail and food service industries will meet
to identify and discuss the challenges for the
future as they relate to sustainability and protecting
the environment. Such strategies will offer new
opportunities for product development and market
development.
